Beyond the Canvas

2017 marks one hundred years since US citizenship was extended to citizens of the island of Puerto Rico, but in some ways, the island territory's future looks more uncertain than ever. Beyond the Canvas: Contemporary Art from Puerto Rico showcases the work of five Puerto Rican artists, all of whom experiment with the possibilities of canvas beyond a flat surface - cutting, warping, or otherwise reshaping it to add a particular spatial urgency to their work.
