Bird and Sausage Gumbo Cook-Off

The rules of this annual gumbo cookoff are few but serious: no seafood, no pre-made ingredients (excepting rice), no jarred roux or canned broth. For the seventh year, gumbo artists are flocking to Watson to see if their fowl concoctions can win out among attendees and judges. The cooking starts at 7 am, with opening ceremonies at 10 am followed by live music and kids' entertainment. $10 to eat and play all day, until 6 pm. Proceeds go toward QuadVets Veterans Services and Transitional Housing Program in Hammond.
