Black History Month Peace Walk, Open Mic & Chess

The Opelousas Museum and local organization Guns Down Power Up are joining up for Black History Month to host a day devoted to peace, creativity, and bringing positivity into the lives of young people. The event begins at 11 am at the St. Landry Parish Courthouse, where community leaders and Guns Down founder Eric Williams will present speeches. From there, participants will take a peace walk from the Courthouse to the Opelousas Museum, where refreshments and activities await. An open mic begins at 1 pm, during which guests are invited to share poems, stories, and songs to celebrate Black History month and their local community. Guns Down Power Up will also facilitate chess games as mechanisms of strategy and wisdom. 11 am–3 pm. Free. (337) 401-2545.
