Canary Islanders Heritage Society

The Canary Islanders Heritage Society of Louisiana will gather today at the East Baton Rouge Parish Library's Bluebonnet branch. Society Member Dr. Carroll Falcon will report on his recent visited to the island of Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands. Mr. Falcon will present photos of historical sites and personal stories about his visit. Louisiana surnames originating from Gran Canaria include: Acosta, Alemán, Alvarado, Alvarez, Cavallero (Cavalier), Delgado, Diaz, Falcon, Garcia, Gomez, Gonzales, Gutierres, Hernandez, Herrera, Hidalgo, Lopez, Marrero, Martel, Martin, Masias, Monzon, Morales, Navarro, Ortiz, Pereira/Perera, Perez, Ramirez, Rodriguez, Romero, Sanchez, and Suarez. All are welcome to the meeting, which begins at 11 am.
