Cinderella
The tale of poor, beleaguered Cinderella has been so often told, that most of us could act out her floor-scrubbing and shoe-losing in our sleep (though it's not a popular practice). Opera Louisiane's take on Rossini's adaptation shouldn't be hard to recognize then, even though Cinderella loses a bracelet instead of a shoe and the prince and his valet arrive at the ball disguised as each other. The prince charms, the stepsisters remain oafish and snide, and the stepmother? Yeah, she's still plenty evil. The family-friendly opera retelling will be sung in English, as part of the Young People's Opera Program. Arrive early to have your photo taken in the magical carriage. 2 pm at First Baptist Church. Free for children eighteen-and-under; $18 at bontempstix.com. (225) 377-2029 or operalouisiane.com for additional information.
