Collection Day at the Opelousas Museum
Opelousas Museum & Interpretive Center 315 N. Main St., Opelousas, Louisiana 70570
The Opelousas Museum and Interpretive Center is inviting individuals in the community to bring out personal and family historical items and photographs, which will be held for around a month before being returned to their owner. The Museum will scan or photograph some items for potential display at the Museum. In particular, the Museum is seeking family photos, family trees, emancipation documents, land deeds, and other treasures—particularly those potentially relevant to the upcoming exhibit Free People of Color in St. Landry Parish from 1700 to present, which will open in March of 2023. 9 am–11 am and noon–3 pm, or by appointment. Free. For more information, contact Patrice Melnick at (337) 948-2589 or museum@cityofopelousas.com
