Creole Language and Music
The Cabildo 701 Chartres Street, New Orleans, Louisiana 70116
For hundreds of years, songs have been sung in Louisiana Creole, shaping the stories, rhythms, and melodies that have been passed from generation to generation. In this musical program, staged in conjunction with Le Kèr Créole at the Cabildo, songwriters Bruce Sunpie Barnes and Leroy Etienne will share music from Le Kèr Creole and join a conversation with Herb Wiltz, co-founder of C.R.E.O.L.E., Inc. and Creole language teacher; Nick Spitzer, director of the award-winning radio program American Routes; and Joseph Darensbourg, historian of Creole folk songs and co-founder of the string orchestra Les Cenelles. 6 pm–8 pm at the Cabildo. louisianastatemuseum.org/cabildo.
