Creole Tomato Festival
The crimson bounty is upon us …
French Market 1008 North Peters Street, New Orleans, Louisiana 70116
It's another bright, juicy year ripe for celebrating summer's favorite bounty: fresh Creole tomatoes. These beloved fruits are set to take over the French Market to mark the official opening of Creole tomato season. It all rolls out Saturday morning with a "Ripe and Ready" second line featuring a local jazz band and The Baby Dolls—be prepared to join in, wearing your favorite tomato best (whatever that means to you!). The rest of the day will keep the pace with live music from Brass-A-Holics, Amanda Shaw, Burris, Rusty Metoyer & the Zydeco Crush, and many more. Don't miss the tomato eating contests, performances by Black Masking Indians, and Best of the Fest Awards. And of course, everywhere you look, there will be a wealth of food booths featuring the star of the show: the Creole Tomato. 11 am–5 pm each day. Free. frenchmarket.org.
