Dance for Social Change Festival
to
Contemporary Arts Center 900 Camp Street, New Orleans, Louisiana 70130
Complex, yet utterly physical and geographical experiences like gentrification and displacement are often difficult to sum up in words. But through the New Orleans youth dance company, Dancing Grounds Uprising, these social justice issues are expressed through community and dance. See them at work at this special show, held at the Contemporary Arts Center, which will feature a multidisciplinary performance combining hip hop, contemporary bounce, and African diasporic dances with poetry and music.
The show will be preceded by a visual installation by young artists from across New Orleans, as well as opening dance performances from other groups. Following each performance, youth will lead story circle discussions with audience members to reflect on the themes and messages being presented. 2 pm and 7:30 pm on Saturday; 2 pm on Sunday. $30 GA; $5 for youth eighteen and younger; $15 for students and seniors; $25 for CAC members. cacno.org. dancingrounds.org.
