David Knox: Civil War Imagery in 21st Century Photography
The Cabildo 701 Chartres Street, New Orleans, Louisiana 70116
In his most recent body of work, New Orleans photographer David Knox plays with American Civil War narratives and characters—folding time and space into a surreal imagined world made up of historical images from the 19th and 20th centuries, and his own from the 21st. Each image is its own "tableaux," that brings together characters and symbols in unexpected and startling ways—exploring themes like hardship, loss, survival, gender, race, class, religion, death, and resurrection.
In a special presentation at The Cabildo, Knox will discuss his process in working with historical printing processes, including stereograph, tintype, and wet plate collodion. 2 pm–3:30 pm. Free to the public.
