Deer and Wildlife Festival

Woodville and Wilkinson County give Louisiana a run for its money on the "Sportsman's Paradise" claim with this festival, back for an eighth year with loads of wild events for folks having a hard time waiting for deer season to open. Some highlights:

• Live music by the Veal Brothers Gospel Group, Bag of Donuts, and Donnell Sullivan

• A Truck and Jeep Show 

• Duck and turkey call demos

• Wild game cookoff of locally harvested venison, duck, wild turkey, fish, alligator, and hog

Plus children's activities, artisan demonstrations, a raffle, and good food. 9 am–5 pm. Downtown Woodville. $7 entry fee; children 2 and under free. deerandwildlifefestival.com.
