Dr. Emma Wakefield-Paillet Marker Unveiling

Celebrate the life and legacy of Emma Wakefield-Paillet, the first African American woman to obtain a medical degree in Louisiana, with a day of festivities. At 10 am, the state historic marker will be unveiled at Bouligny Plaza accompanied with the reading of an original poem by Dr. Darrell Bourque, former Louisiana Poet Laureate, and singing. At 11 am, a reception will be held at the Iberia Parish Courthouse where an original work of art will be on display, followed by an original composition and play at the Essanee Theater at 2 pm. iberiatravel.com.
