Historical gastronomist Sarah Lohman (who knew there was such a thing, but how exciting that there is) discusses her book Eight Flavors: The Untold Story of American Cuisine. Lohman's book talks about American history through eight common ingredients in American cuisines. This talk, focuses on three flavors with special significance for Southern food: Curry Powder, Chili Powder, and Garlic. There will be a book signing and small reception with a sampling of food using the three flavors after the lecture. 12:30 pm–1:30 pm. Books will be available for purchase.
