Festivals Acadiens et Créoles
to
Girard Park 500 Girard Park, Lafayette, Louisiana 70503
Come bask in the cultural heritage that makes this area of the world so unique, as Festivals Acadiens et Créoles convenes to pay tribute to the music, food, and arts passed down since the arrival of the Acadian pioneers 250 years ago. Non-stop cultural immersion includes poster artist Melissa Bonin's painting exhibition at the Hilliard Museum, a Cajun and Creole culture symposium focusing on female perspectives within the culture, the Tour Des Atakapas race & duathlon, and a French Mass. There will also be five stages of music, featuring beloved Louisiana musicians including: Bonsoir, Catin, the Lafayette Rhythm Devils, Horace Trahan and the Ossun Express, Feufollet, the Pine Leaf Boys, Geno Delafose & French Rockin' Boogie, Lost Bayou Ramblers, Steve Riley & the Mamou Playboys, Forest Huval & Friends, Yvette Landry & the Jukes, Cedric Watson & Bijou Créole, and many many more. Also: the Bayou Food Festival, arts & crafts, poetry, etc. Like so many amazing Lafayette festivals, it's almost all free (how do they do that?). festivalsacadiens.com.
[On Friday, during the "Les Femmes et les filles" culture symposium, Ashlee Michot will moderate a poetry reading from her recently published collection of women's writings, Ô Malheureuse. Read about the project in this profile from our December 2018 issue—"Woman of the Prairie". ]
[On Saturday, during her set with The Jukes, Cajun musician (and Country Roads cover star) Yvette Landry will be inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame—read all about it here.]
