Leave the X-Men to the megaplex. Each month, the Manship Theatre offers a slate of films, from modern classics to engaging new documentaries and locally-produced stories. Here's what's in store this month:
May 6: SPOOF NIGHT! with Over the Top: Baton Rouge's The Family Dinner Improv Comedy Troupe present a hilariously-interactive screening of the film about an arm-wrestling truck driver who takes his twelve-year-old son on the road. 8 pm. $12.
May 12: Little Satchmo: The remarkable story of Louis Armstrong's secret daughter, Sharon Preston Folta—the product of a two-decade-long affair between the musician and vaudeville dancer Lucille Preston. After over fifty years, Folta now shares her story. 7:30 pm. $9.50.
May 21: The Demonologist: This entirely Louisiana-shot film follows a detective investigating a string of murders that force him to become "the Demonologist". Presented as part of the Louisiana Film Series. 7:30 pm. $9.50.
May 31: Freakscene: The Story of Dinosaur Jr. : An homage to one of the most influential bands on the East Coast—whose "grunge" style laid the foundation for the entire "slacker" culture of Gen X. 7:30 pm. $9.50.
