Films at the Manship Theatre

Leave the X-Men to the megaplex. Each month, the Manship Theatre offers a slate of films, from modern classics to engaging new documentaries and locally-produced stories. Here's what's in store: 

November 8: Dear Sirs: Mark Pedri's documentary, presented by the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs and Louisiana State Archives, tells the story of a soldier captured by the German army in France during the Battle of Metz, showing his journey as he was transported from prison camp to prison camp. The screening will be preceded by a reception in the main lobby, giving guests the opportunity to speak to representatives from the LSU Library's T. Harry Williams Center for Oral History and the Louisiana State Archives about their mission to memorialize veterans' stories through oral history. Guests can also view a military-themed display from the State Archives featuring WWI propaganda posters, and upstairs in the gallery they can view original documents, uniforms, and memorabilia from Louisiana veterans. A Q&A session with director Mark Pedri and producer Carrie McCarthy will follow the screening. Reception starts at 5 pm; screening at 6:30 pm. Free. 

November 9: The Original King Bee: Presented by the Slim Harpo Music Awards and produced by Pal Productions as part of the Louisiana Film Series presented by Louisiana Entertainment, a documentary told by James "Slim Harpo" Moore via a 1968 interview with Susan Cassidy Clark at Steve Paul's Scene in NYC, featuring interviews with his wife Lovell, his stepson William Gambler, and his original King Bee band mates. 7:30 pm. $10.50.
