Brandon Ballengée
RIP Passenger Pigeon After Rex Brasher, 1931. 2018
Extinction, its victims, and the prey in sight are all subject to Brandon Ballengée's provocative perspective in a new interdisciplinary exhibition at the Louisiana Art & Science Museum. In Frameworks of Absence, the artist aims to guide viewers toward environmental stewardship. He excises the extinct from historic illustrations and places mounted specimens alongside the work to further drive the point home.
Ballengée currently serves as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Museum of Natural Science at Louisiana State University, where he is studying the impact of the 2010 oil spill on fish species in the Gulf of Mexico. Read our November 2017 article, "Curator's Choice," for more on Ballengée's work. lasm.org.
