The 2017 Francisco Bouligny Lecture will be The Historic New Orleans Collection’s contribution to “From Cuba to New Orleans,” a series of three programs celebrating Cuban music. Presented by the Musical Arts Society of New Orleans, the National Park Service and THNOC, this series will feature three public events with internationally acclaimed pianist Alexandre Moutouzkine, a Russian-American who studied under a Cuban piano master.
- September 26: Moutouzkine will perform a solo recital of selections from the 2017 album “Piano Music of Cuba” at the Williams Research Center at 6:30 pm. Admission is free, but reservations encouraged: wrc@hnoc.org or (504) 523-4662.
- September 27: MASNO will present “Flavors of Cuba” with music featuring Moutouzkine and violinist Chloé Kiffer on and culinary delights from Carmo Restaurant. Tickets are $40 and include food; cash bar. masno.org.
- September 29: The National Park Service will present a free public lecture at noon at the Old U.S. Mint, looking at the musical connections between New Orleans and Cuba. Alfred E. Lemmon will lead the discussion, which will include live accompaniment by Moutouzkine.
