Iberia Parish Library 445 E Main St., New Iberia, Louisiana 70560
The Emancipation Proclamation was signed just over 150 years ago, and in the time since Reconstruction there have been great strides made toward civil equality, but even today we have a long road ahead before equality for all is truly realized. "Generations of Struggle" is a reading and discussion series hosted by the Bayou Teche Museum and Iberia Parish Library that will explore the aftermath of slavery and the enduring challenges we face as a society in obtaining equal rights for all citizens. The works to be discussed are the film Slavery by Another Name, and books A Lesson Before Dying by Ernest Gaines, and Between the World and Me by TaNehisi Coates. Seating is limited to twenty-five, and non-school-age residents are encouraged to attend to create a multi-generational dialogue. Held Wednesdays, 5:30 pm-7 pm. To register, call (337) 606-5977.
