Highland Road Park Observatory 13800 Highland Road, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70810
Not to say that today's eclipse is only happening at the following Baton Rouge locations—that's not really how the sky works—but here are some prime spots to gather for the total solar eclipse.
• Highland Road Park Observatory (13800 Highland Road): Should the darkening afternoon sky give you the heebie-jeebies, you'll have some experts on hand to talk you down. 11 am–3 pm. hrpo.lsu.edu.
• Louisiana Art & Science Museum (100 River Road South): Gather on the levee behind the museum's planetarium theater for a riverside vantage of the spectacle. Solar viewing glasses available for $2. Noon–1 pm. lasm.org.
