Hat Run
Pennington Biomedical Research Center 6400 Perkins Road, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70808
The LSO Foundation, named in honor of Baton Rouge native Lauren Savoy Olinde, was created in 2012 to honor Lauren's memory. Lauren passed away after a two-year battle with melanoma in January of 2012. The LSO Foundation is an affiliate of Cancer Services and works to help promote awareness of skin cancer through projects like shading playgrounds, educating and providing hats to outdoor workers, and promoting skin cancer screenings. A fun and fit part of the foundation's awareness campaign is the annual Hat Run, with 5K and one-mile options (hat-wearing encouraged). For parents that want to participate in the race, both courses are stroller-friendly; and chip timing is available. There will also be a kids’ activity tent with face painting, inflatables, hat crafts, and sun education; plus, free skin cancer screenings open to the public and race participants provided by local dermatologists until 11 am. lsofoundation.org. 8 am behind Pennington Biomedical Research Center; 7 am registration. $25–$35 for adults; $15 for children 15 and under.
