Forget corn fields—we in Louisiana know swamps have way better spooky vibes for Halloween festivities. Haunted Hootenannies will take place over two weekends at BREC's Bluebonnet Swamp. Saturdays offer wicked daytime fun, like the Wonderful Wall of Weird display or exploring the Animal Morgue; and extended evening hours offer nighttime walks when all the nocturnal creatures come out to play. Join via Zoom on Fridays for exciting and fascinating animal presentations by nature experts such as Dr. Nathan Lord from the Louisiana State Anthropod Museum talking about creepy crawlies, or Leslie Lattamore from Wings of Hope Wildlife Rehabilitation with owls and other birds of prey. No tricks here, but grab a treat bag anytime throughout the month of October to accompany some spooky, safe fun! Online is free with price of physical admission or tickets can be purchased online, Oct. 16 & 23 from 6-7 pm; In-person is $3 Oct.17 & 24 from 9 am-8 pm—costumes encouraged! brec.org.
