Gallier Gatherings: 50 Years a Rooming House
Gallier Historic House 1132 Royal Street, New Orleans, Louisiana 70116
In 1924, the Christian Woman's Exchange (now Woman's Exchange) purchased the Grima Mansion as its headquarters. Over the course of the next fifty years, hundreds of single, working women made the mansion home—some staying for just a few days, others for years.
As part of the Hermann-Grima+Gallier Historic Houses popular monthly lecture series, Gallier Gatherings, sociologist and feminist scholar from the Newcomb Center for Research on Women at Tulane Beth Willinger will tell these women's stories. She'll focus especially on women whose decisions as board members shaped the history of the house. Complimentary wine reception preceding the lecture. $10 in advance. 6 pm–7:30 pm. hggh.org.
