History on the Bayou
Bayou Lacombe Museum 61115 S. St. Mary Street, Lacombe, Louisiana 70445
Presented by the Bayou Lacombe Museum, this series of local storytelling brings together historical authorities and storytellers to illustrate the rich cultural history of Lacombe, Louisiana. The first session will be held on April 19, featuring Liz Genest Smith, who wrote the article "Cross & Blur: Tracing Lacombe's Culture, History & Lore." Smith calls the town "the only Creole-Catholic settlement on the Northshore, with deep Choctaw ancestral roots and familial ties to the famously celebrated poet-priest Pere Drien Rouquette." Also in attendance will be Terri Gregory, a Louisiana native who—after leaving for twenty five years—returned with a revived interest in her roots. Gregory is the great-grand niece of Father Rouquette, the beloved Chahta-Ima, and a most informative and entertaining speaker. 2 pm. Museum admission is $3 for adults; $2 for seniors; $1 for students; and free for children six and younger. bayoulacombemuseum.com.
