Master photographers are keenly aware of the properties of light, capturing and manipulating it to create desired effects. Photographer Richard Chase Albertine (1944–2016) understood light not only as a physical phenomenon, but also as a way to express inner feelings and create a photographic record of the world around him. LASM's new exhibition, Inner Light: Photographs by Richard Albertine, is a testament to his personal “inner light.” Never taking the act of picture-taking for granted, he captured the spirit of the people and places he photographed. As he put it, “My own way of taking pictures is to follow a path with a heart.” The exhibit will be featured in the Soupçon Gallery from January 23—May 26. lasm.org
