The Baton Rouge Jewish Film Festival returns this year, bringing a series of acclaimed films to the Manship Theatre related to Jewish culture and history. On the bill are:
• January 15, 7 pm: The Museum: In a film that observes, examines, and ponders Israel's most important cultural institution, director Ran Tal follows the visitors, observes the observers, listens to the speakers, and descends to the storerooms, labs and conference rooms of the Israel Museum.
• January 16, 7 pm: The Unorthodox: Elira Malka's dark comedy, based on real-life events, depicts the 1980's formation of an upstart Israeli party representing the interests of Sephardic Jews.
• January 18, 7:30 pm: Fiddler: A Miracle of Miracles: The musical story of a Jewish family set in a shtetl was a risky bet when it premiered on Broadway over a half-century ago. But, after initial mixed review, Fiddler on the Roof would go onto capture the hearts of audiences everywhere. This documentary explores the perspectives of cast and crew members, scholars and speculators of the first musical to exceed 3,000 performances in Broadway history
• January 19, 3 pm: Redemption: Menachem (Moshe Folkenflik) is a widower and single father who is a modern-day Job. Not long after losing his wife to cancer, he now faces the prospect of losing his six-year-old daughter Geula (Emily Granin) as well. Through it all, Menny remains devout, even though one can sense that his faith may be fraying at the edges.
