Josephine Sacabo
"La Mujer Del Sol 1"
In a new collection by contemporary photographer Josephine Sacabo, Nahui Olin's story is reframed to one of triumph. Born into and expelled from Mexico's high society in the early twentieth century, Olin possessed a mystery and ethereal quality captured in her own work as an artist and as a muse to Diego Rivera and Edward Weston. Known as a woman spurned by her inability to conform, Sacabo celebrates Olin's ability to abandon the weight of societal expectations, to dance to the music of her own soul. In her twenty-one hand-pulled photogravures, printed on Japanese kozo, Sacabo taps into the woman's legendary beauty and symbolism as a work of art in herself.
