The O’Dell S. William African American Museum in Baton Rouge has reopened its doors just in time to celebrate Juneteenth, a holiday commemorating the day when news of emancipation finally reached slaves in Texas—two years after the end of the Civil War. This year, instead of hosting separate events, community leaders will collaborate together, kicking off on June 19 with celebrations at the Odell S. Williams African American Museum and Millennial Park. June 20 will carry on the festivities with a march, lunch, and many more activities in downtown Baton Rouge. See a list of times and events below:
