to
Ibis Contemporary Art Gallery 440 Julia Street, New Orleans, Louisiana
Afro-what-if-ism: Reimagining One Night in 1811, New Orleans native Katrina Andry’s exhibition delves into the historical backdrop of the 1811 slave revolt at the Andry Plantation, an event known as “The First Freedom March,” which served as a poignant source of inspiration for this renowned artist. The exhibition will display Andry’s dexterity with woodcuts, as well as monotypes and an installation which explores themes of color-based prejudice and societal disparities. Andry’s “what if” compositions spark conversations about the enduring impact of historical events on the present, as well as the possibilities of the future. This thought provoking and striking visual storytelling will be on display at IBIS Contemporary Art Gallery, with an opening reception November 4 from 6 pm–9 pm. Gallery hours are Tuesday–Saturday, 10 am– 5 pm. ibisartgallery.com.
