The Legendary La Poussiere Cajun Dancehall
La Poussière Cajun Dancehall 1301 Grand Point Avenue, Breaux Bridge, Louisiana 70517
For over sixty years now, weekends have found young and old rhythm-endowed folks packing the dance floor at La Poussière to go round and round to the live music. This Saturday afternoon, the Cajun French Music Association's Chapitre de Lafayette will pay tribute to the storied Cajun dancehall, with a slate of performances recalling the accordion dancehall kings Aldus Roger, Belton Richard, and Walter Mouton. La Poussière has operated in its current location since 1975 and first opened across the street in 1955. The schedule for the tribute follows:
10 am: Jr. Hebert and the Maurice Playboys with Special Guest Ray Landry
11:45 am: Travis Matte, Jason Frey, Jackie Caillier
1:30 pm: High Performance featuring Steve Riley & Jamie Bearb
3:15 pm: Jackie Caillier, Ivy Dugas & the Cajun Cousins
4 pm: Tribute Ceremony
Doors open at 9 am. $10; ages 12 and under free. Food, drinks, and sweets will be available for purchase, but no food or drinks may be brought inside. For more information and the most current schedule, call Mike Broussard at (337) 889-9478. 1301 Grand Point Avenue. lapoussiere.com.
