Neal Auction Company exhibit Marc Chagall's oil painting “Le Luxembourg” before the Major Fall Estates Auction September 15 & 16; the work, at auction for the first time in over sixty-five years, is expected to fetch around $1 million. Executed in 1953—a year after Chagall’s marriage to Valentina (Vava) Brodsky—the work, whose unbroken chain of provenance originates in Vava’s estate, is believed to be a tribute to the couple’s relationship. The painting combines many of Chagall's most iconic artistic elements: a bold palette, bride, horse, bouquet of flowers, and the faint outline of a fiddler. It is a quintessential, classic and powerful painting by the master of early Modernism. nealauction.com.
