Lighting of the Village
The annual event promises a petting zoo, choir music, cupcake decorating and ornament-making stations, and thousands of holiday lights, of course.

Watch the holiday lights come alive during Opelousas's festival Lighting of the Village. Things all a-twinkle this year will include a petting zoo, photos with Santa and Minnie and Mickey Mouse, a balloon animal artist, traditional choir music, dozens of local vendors and of course, the official “pulling of the switch” to illuminate thousands of lights in the historical village. The event also offers a shopping opportunity, with the town's vendors offering various arts and craft items. 5 pm–8:30 pm at Le Vieux Village, 828 E. Landry Street.
