Lorraine Hansberry, the playwright whose work "A Raisin in the Sun," was the first play by an African American woman to be performed on Broadway.
Louisiana Public Broadcasting and Baton Rouge Community College present a free screening of Lorraine Hansberry: Sighted Eyes/Feeling Heart this Monday at the Magnolia Performing Arts Pavilion. Hansberry was a playwright and activist whose work A Raisin in the Sun (1959) was the first Broadway play ever written by an African-American woman. This earnest documentary from American Masters by filmmaker Trace Heather Strain takes a comprehensive look at a creative and inspirational figure whose recognition is long overdue.
