LPO Opening Night Gala & Concert
Orpheum Theatre 129 Roosevelt Way, New Orleans, Louisiana 70112
The Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra's 2019/2020 season promises to be nothing short of iconic—with its Music of the Americas series highlighting the world premiere of a commission by New Orleans' own Courtney Bryan, works by Copland and Ives, and LPO principal bassoonist Jack Pena in a performance by Brazilian composer Hector Villa-Lobos—alongside the launch of a multi-season celebration of Ludqing van Beethoven for the 250th anniversary of his birth.
To appropriately kick it all off, LPO's Opening Night Gala at the Orpheum Theater will feature orchestral musician Francisco "Pacho" Flores, who will lead performances of Arturo Marquez's Concierto de Otono (Concert of Autumn) for trumpet and orchestra and Evancio Castellanos' Santa Cruz de Pacairigua, which will be followed by Beethoven's monumental Fifth Symphony. 7:30 pm.
Along with tickets to the performance, patrons may also purchase reservations for a celebratory three-course dinner in the Roosevelt Hotel's Fountain Lounge prior to the show, as well as a champagne toast in the Blue Room afterwards. Tickets can be reserved at (504) 523-6530. $20–$140.lpomusic.com.
