Always wanted to take up ceramics, soap making, painting, woodworking, or other arts and crafts? How about salsa dancing or beekeeping? A variety of courses begin in October, including a few one-day cooking courses. For a complete list of courses, visit outreach.lsu.edu/leisure.
- Pottery for Beginners. Impress friends and family with handmade ceramic pieces. LSU Leisure Courses offer multiple opportunities for those interested in pottery throughout fall. Clay Date Night is a one-night experience that can bring people closer through shared creativity (and a little mess!) for only $50 per pair. More in-depth courses, such as wheel throwing, require multiple class sessions and cost $183, materials provided. Advance registration required. LSU Leisure & Arts Studio on LSU's campus. Wheel Throwing classes are every Monday from October 10 to November 14; Clay Date Nights are October 13 and 27.
- One-Day Cooking Course: Cook Like a Professional. This convenient one-day cooking course, which takes place at the LSU School of Nutrition's new state-of-the-art demo kitchen, includes instruction on creating "Cheese Bolognese Bakes." Sample what you make and leave with new recipes! Register in advance. $79, materials provided. October 9 from 2 pm–5 pm. This course is one in a series of one-day cooking courses, so check the website for more.
- Handmade Soap Courses. Obsessed with suds and scents? Take a budding interest to the next level with a series of one-day soap making courses this month. Learn basic swirling and pouring techniques in the cold process courses, or try out the kaleidoscope course where all participants work together. Embrace the fall with a pumpkin facial soap, offered only this month. Register in advance. $37, materials provided. Cold Process courses are October 9 and 30; Kaleidoscope Soap course on October 16; Pumpkin Facial Soap course on October 23. All take place at LSU Leisure & Arts Studio on LSU's campus.
- Beekeeping 101: The FUN of Beekeeping. Can't get enough honey? Let Steve and Terri Kennedy share their love of beekeeping in this informative class. Learn about how the hive operates, equipment used, and the benefits of owning your own hive. Discussion topics include ordinances and common diseases, plus a demonstration of honey extraction. Ages 18+. Register in advance. $75. Two meeting course, October 18 and 25, on LSU's campus.
