Lunchtime Lagniappe: Bayou Sara Used to Be
Capitol Park Museum 660 North 4th Street, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70802
For Capitol Park Museum's April Lunchtime Lagniappe, Anne Butler shares the stories of the hardworking immigrants who settled in the vanished Bayou Sara. The Mississippi River port below the St. Francisville bluff was once one of the most important on the river, with a mile of cotton warehouses and extensive residential and commercial districts. Its residents were resilient folk, a group that remained in the area despite dire flooding, fires, and wartime shelling for over a century. Now all that remains of Bayou Sara are clusters of weeping willows.
Lunchtime Lagniappe is an ongoing series of brown bag talks that last approximately thirty minutes plus Q&A. Attendees are welcome to come and go as their lunch hour permits. Free. (225) 342-5428.
