With a washboard as her canvas and fabric and found objects as her materials, artist Malaika Favorite depicts scenes of her rural childhood and her grandparents' work in the sugarcane fields. Favorite's folk art features in galleries and offices across the country—you can even spot her murals in the Atlanta airport. Now find Favorite at the West Baton Rouge Museum, with new exhibit Washboard City on view. westbatonrougemuseum.org.
Don't miss: On October 21, at 2:30 pm, Favorite will give this year's Ethel Claiborne Dameron Lecture at the museum, presented by the West Baton Rouge Historical Association.
