The fifteenth presentation of the Mississippi Museum of Art's Annie Laurie Swaim Hearin Memorial Exhibition Series, When Modern Was Contemporary: Selections from the Roy R. Neuberger Collection, is a traveling exhibition focusing on an exceptional group of works by some of the twentieth century’s most iconic artists. Featuring fifty paintings and sculptures, When Modern Was Contemporary illuminates the artistic transformations that took place in the U.S. during the first half of the twentieth century, while also exploring Roy Neuberger’s significant role as a collector of and advocate for the contemporary art of his time, providing unique insight into one of the most fertile periods in American art. This presentation in Mississippi's capital city marks the first time the collection has traveled from its home at the Neuberger Museum of Art in New York. Organized by the American Federation of Arts and the Neuberger Museum of Art of Purchase College, SUNY. Tuesdays–Sundays at 380 South Lamar Street. $12 adults, $6 students. msmuseumart.org.
