In one of the most noteworthy exhibitions to open in New Orleans' Arts District this year, ten of Gilot's rare monotype works, alongside her drawings and paintings, will be on exhibition at Mac-Gryder, opening on August 3 for White Linen Night.
Her monotypes, created with lithographic inks, solvents, and equipment and painting directly onto plexiglass rather than stone or metal plates, were made in sessions at Solo Press in New York. The works echo her lifelong work of oil on canvas, but are distinct in their elaborate technique, striking colors, and textured surfaces.
Monotypes: Cartography of Hidden Worlds will remain on view until September 28.
