Moresi: The Man, The Industry

The Jeanerette Museum hosts a part-tour, part-exhibition celebrating the sugarcane industry, called Moresi: The Man, The Industry, on Wednesday. Attendees should meet at Moresi Foundry, located next to the museum, for this special event. Foundry general manager Jim Farmer will speak about the founder of the factory, Antoine Moresi. Learn more about the foundry, ice plant, bottling plant, power plant and businesses that were inspired by Moresi, who was a native of Switzerland and owner of a blacksmith shop near Jeanerette. He devoted his time to the sugar industry by repairing machinery, erecting sugar mills, and operating sugar mill machinery. Following the presentation, attendees will embark on a special tour of the foundry to view the manufacturing process. This is a working factory, so the Museum recommends showing up in casual clothes and closed-toe shoes. Adults only, please. Seating may be limited and taken on a first come, first serve basis.
