Music & Mic
Featuring Darrell Bourque and Sister Theresa Sue Joseph SSF
Chicory's Coffee & Café 219 East Martin Luther King Drive, Grand Coteau, Louisiana 70541
Join the Festival of Words Cultural Arts Collective at Chicory's Coffee & Café for an evening of poetry and storytelling by some of our own. Former Louisiana Poet Laureate and English professor emeritus at the University of Louisiana Lafayette Darrell Bourque will read poetry from his new book From the Other Side: Henriette Delille. The series of sonnets is set to paintings by Shreveport abstract expressionist painter Bill Gingles, and presents a portrait of New Orleans' Venerable Mother Henriette Delille in her own disembodied voice, speaking from "the other side."
Sister Theresa Sue Joseph will follow with the story of her own experience within the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Family. An Opelousas native, Sister Joseph has lived in the convent for over fifty years, working in elementary education, pastoral, and prison ministries.
Guests are encouraged to bring their own poems, songs, or stories for open mic. 7 pm–9 pm. For more information, call Nia DeCoux at (678) 561-0216.
