The Historic New Orleans Collection presents programming in conjunction with its ongoing exhibit "New Orleans, the Founding Era":
- May 12: Traditional Herbal Remedies in the African American Community: Eddie L. Boyd, former faculty member of the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy, will discuss his research on traditional herbs and their uses as medicine passed down through generations in the African American community. Visitors can stop by at any time between 1 pm and 4 pm to talk with Boyd and see the demonstration.
- May 22: The Early French Mapping of Louisiana: Presented in conjunction with the exhibition “New Orleans, the Founding Era,” a presentation by Dennis Reinhartz, emeritus professor of history at the University of Texas at Arlington, will examine French cartography, beginning with Guillaume de L’Isle’s 1718 map of Louisiana—the first to indicate New Orleans—and continuing with others on view in the exhibition. In addition, he will explore with the connections between the early French and Spanish mapping of the area. 6 pm-8 pm.
