New Shows at the Irene W. Pennington Planetarium

After a successful pilot reopening, two exciting events are coming to the Irene W. Pennington Planetarium this weekend.
• June 5–6, Flight of the Butterflies & Laser Queen: Be captivated by the true and compelling story of a scientist's 40-year-search to find the monarch's secret hideaway. Unravel the mysteries and experience Flight of the Butterflies on Friday, June 5, at 6 pm. Then, see the new show, Laser Queen, featuring the classic rock band Queen's greatest hits, including favorites like "Bohemian Rhapsody," "Another One Bites the Dust," and "You're My Best Friend," all on the 60-foot, 360- degree dome of the Planetarium on Saturday, June 6, at 7 pm. $20 each; free for members.
• June 6, Stargazing, Secrets of Gravity, & Apollo 11: Explore the local nighttime sky and learn about stars and constellations guided by Ms. Chandra in the presentation, Stargazing, from 10 am–10:30 am. In Secrets of Gravity, the robot ALBY takes young Luke on a magical journey of discovery through time and space, during which they not only uncover the secrets of gravity, but also learn much about friendship and imagination—for both Luke and ALBY have secrets of their own. 10:30 am–11 am. Apollo 11: First Steps Edition is a thrilling cinematic experience showcasing the real-life moments of the first lunar landing. With never-before-seen 70-mm footage and newly discovered audio recordings, the filmmakers reconstruct the exhilarating final moments of preparation, lift off, landing, and return of this historic mission—one of humanity's greatest achievements and the first to put a man on the moon. 11 am–noon. $15 each; free for members.
