Night Shift

Arthur Roger Gallery 432 Julia Street, New Orleans, Louisiana 70130
Anyone whose stepped into Tiger Stadium on LSU's campus knows the odd sort of awe the enormous space can evoke. But even after four years of entering that colosseum as the team's defensive back, Brandon Surtain finds greater artistic inspiration in his own childhood in New Orleans' Ninth Ward.
In his debut exhibition at Arthur Roger gallery, Night Shift, Surtain's impressionistic paintings depict corners of New Orleans in the dark—a solo passing bus, an empty playground, trash bins lined up on the sidewalk, a man asleep on the sidewalk with a church in the background.
Night Shift will be on display from August 3–September 21, with an opening reception on White Linen Night from 6 pm–8 pm.
