Between 1819–1821, Louisiana's western border was made up of disputed territory between the United States and Spain. The exhibition No Man’s Land was created for the bicentennial celebration of this historic period in 2019–2021, and now is on display at the Alexandria Museum of art. Vernon Parish artists Isabelle Massart-Bursh, Tony McDonald, Rickie Smith, and Joey Governale have created work marking this moment of lawlessness of their home parish's past. themuseum.org.
