In honor of National Caribbean Heritage Month, New Orleans is tapping into its island roots, with a series of ten cultural events taking over the city over the course of four days.
It all kicks off at The Howlin' Wolf on Thursday, June 20, with a concert by Haitian band Koneksyon, the Haitian DJ Mundo, and New Orleans' own K.O.B. Brass Band. Friday brings Trinidadian artist Imani Ray, Bahamian Dyson Knight, and Freezy of St. Lucian Soca to the hottest pool party of the year at The Drifer Hotel. Saturday's events range from a brunch day party with celebrity chefs to the NOLA Colour Me Krazy Carnival Parade to the weekend's biggest event—the NOLA Caribbean Festival at Central City BBQ, which features fantastic live music, food, African drum lessons, and a Kids Corner.
Plenty more fun to be had celebrating one of the most vibrant and complex cultures in our region. More details at nolacaribbeanfestival.com and NOLA Caribbean Experience's Facebook page.
