October with Baton Rouge Herb Society

The Baton Rouge Herb Society has several events in the month of October:
• October 1-2: Society members will be selling herbs and herb crafts at the Hilltop Arboretum PlantFest.
• October 15: The Urban Garden as Eco-System (class). Takes place at the home of Chris Frink. The Frinks raise chickens and keep bees, they compost, and have a large and very productive garden, where everything is connected. Included in the price is a book on gardening, which was chosen by the American Horticultural Society as one of the seventy-five greatest books ever written about gardening. 9 am–noon. $30, registration at hsabr.org. Participants will receive the address upon registration.
• October 27: The twenty-fifth anniversary of the Baton Rouge Herb Society will be celebrated with a gala at Burden Gardens, where speakers will talk about the early days of the Society. Many founders will be present, and food made using early Society cookbooks will be served. $5. 6:30 pm, 4560 Essen Lane.
• October 30: The Baton Rouge Herb Society honors Kathryn Aalto, author of The Natural World of Winnie the Pooh by co-sponsoring a reception in her honor at the Hilltop Arboretum. Her book explores the English landscape that inspired the world of Winnie the Pooh, through photographs, illustrations, and text. 2 pm–5 pm.
