October at State Parks
Louisiana Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Each month the good folks at Louisiana State Parks send us a listing of information for all the programs taking place at park properties during the month to come. The October calendar contains upwards of seventy-five programs, ranging from dutch oven-cooking demonstrations and workshops on how not to get lost in the woods, to junior ranger classes, Cajun-French conversations, and living-history sessions. So don't spend this time of year indoors; visit the wide open spaces cared for by the State Parks system. Here is a small sampling of adventures on offer.
• October 8, Fort St. Jean Baptiste Tricentennial, Fort St. Jean Baptiste, Natchitoches: Join staff, volunteers, and guests, for a day-long celebration kicking off the 300-year anniversary of the fort´s establishment in 1716. • October 22, Make a Difference Day, Longfellow-Evangeline State Historic Site, Saint Martinville: On this national day of community service, participants will assist in site beautification projects. 10 am–noon. (888) 677-2900.
