Odyssey: An Epic Journey

As part of a creative and exciting new fundraising initiative, the New Orleans Museum of Art will host five fabulous nights filled with art and music and decadence. The Odyssey series will welcome guests into the museum for art- and musical-themed evenings featuring cocktails, a special curatorial tour, artist spotlights, and a three-course seated dinner by Ralph Brennan Catering & Events in NOMA's newly renovated courtyard. Per local and state mandates, there is an eighty person capacity for each event. Cocktails and hors d'ouvres and the curatorial tour will take place from 7 pm–7:30 pm; dinner will follow. November 6—"New Orleans Jazz" : Explore the connections between jazz and the making of contemporary photographs in New Photography: Create, Collect, Compile with curator Russell Lord. Curator Katie Pfohl will join to discuss the influence of jazz on modernist painter Stuart Davis, and decorate arts curator will round out the discussion with a discussion on contemporary potter Roberto Lugo's commission for NOMA, which pairs depictions of Louis Armstrong and hip-hop recording artist Lil Wayne.
November 13 & 14 (Friday date Sold Out)—"Sinatra and Swing" : Join photography curator Russell Lord for a discussion on the work of photographer Herman Leonard, featuring his portraits of Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, and other legends of the swing era. Decorative arts curator Mel Buchanan will give the backstory on a cocktail cart designed for early commercial air travel, and Curator Ndubuisi Ezeluomba will discuss adornment in African art.
December 3 & 4: (Friday date Sold Out)—"Warhol and Disco" : Don't miss the exclusive opportunity to see Andy Warhol's "Little Red Book" with photography curator Russell Lord. Katie Pfohl will lead a discussion on the healing power of art featuring the exhibition Mending the Sky and, of course, viewers will be able to view NOMA's portrait of Mick Jagger by Warhol.
