"One Book, One Community": Hidden Figures Screening
Main Library at Goodwood 7711 Goodwood Boulevard, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70806
In celebration of EBRPL's "One Book, One Community" initiative, the Main Library at Goodwood will present a screening of the film based on Margot Lee Shetterly's book by the same name, Hidden Figures.
The movie tells the story of some of America's most under-recognized contributors, NASA's "computers". This group of African American mathematicians played a vital role to the U.S. space program in its earliest years. Hidden Figures highlights their battle against discrimination and for recognition of their achievements and value, while simultaneously shining national light on these achievements for the first time.
The free screening will take place at the Main Library's Outdoor Plaza at 7 pm Friday, April 6. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs. There is also an option to watch the film indoors in the library's Large Meeting Room. ebrpl.com.
